.info
A .info domain is a generic top-level domain made for information sites. It is operated by Identity Digital Limited, which is the registry for this extension. Anyone can register a .info domain, so it suits individuals, small businesses and organisations that publish or collect information online.
The registry’s rules give you a few practical benefits. Registrations can run for 1 to 10 years, and you can renew in one-year steps. DNSSEC is supported, which helps protect your visitors from forged DNS answers. Names can be 2 to 63 characters long, and internationalised names are allowed, so you can use characters beyond plain English letters.
A .info domain is a good choice when your site is genuinely about information and you want a name that describes that purpose. Before you register, check that your contact details are accurate, because the registry expects them to be kept current. You should also plan your renewal date, since the timing rules after expiry are strict.
Registration is open to anyone, anywhere in the world.
- Anyone may register a .info domain, with no local presence required.
- Your contact details must be accurate when you register.
- You must keep your contact details current for as long as you hold the name.
Renew before expiry to keep your name without any extra steps.
- After expiry there is a 40-day grace period in which the domain can still be renewed at the standard rate.
- If the grace period ends without renewal, a 30-day redemption period follows, and redemption costs extra.
- Once the redemption period ends, the name is released and becomes available to others.
You can transfer an existing .info domain to Domain Central from another provider.
- You need the authorisation (EPP) code from your current registrar, and the domain must be unlocked.
- A transfer cannot be made within 60 days of registration or of a previous transfer.
- Transfers usually take 5 to 7 days, and the losing registrar has up to 5 days to respond before the transfer completes automatically.
You can change the registrant of your .info domain through the registrar.
- A change of registrant does not change the expiry date or the term of the registration.
