.in
A .in domain is the country code domain for India. It is operated by the National Internet Exchange of India, which runs the registry at registry.in. Businesses, organisations and individuals with a connection to India use it to show that link in their web address.
The registry supports DNSSEC, which helps protect your domain from certain forms of tampering with its DNS records. Names can be between 3 and 63 characters long. Registration starts with a minimum term of 1 year, and you can renew in increments of 1 year. A new registration takes 1 to 3 days to process. Internationalised names are not allowed, so your domain must use standard Latin characters.
A .in domain suits you if you have a genuine business or personal connection to India. Before you register, check that you meet the eligibility rules described below, because the registry may ask for supporting documents.
Registration is open to anyone, but applicants outside India must show a legitimate link to the country.
- Each entity can register no more than 2 domain names under .in.
- Applicants outside India must sign a declaration of a legitimate business connection or purpose linked to India.
- You must also provide one of the accepted documents, such as a passport, driving licence or income tax returns for the last 2 years.
Your domain must be renewed before it expires to keep it active.
- After expiry, there is a grace period of 30 days in which you can still renew the domain.
- There is no separate redemption period.
- If the domain is not renewed by the end of the grace period, it is released.
