A .design domain is a generic top-level domain run by Registry Services, LLC. The word is understood around the world, so the extension suits designers, studios and anyone whose work involves design. Designers from graphic, web, interior, fashion and landscape practices are among those who register names under it.
The registry supports DNSSEC, which helps protect your domain against tampering with its DNS records. Names can be between 3 and 63 characters long, and internationalised names are not allowed. Registrations run for 1 to 10 years, and there is no local presence requirement, so you can register one from anywhere.
A .design domain is a good choice if the word matches what you do and you want a name that signals creative work at a glance. Before you register, check that the name fits within the length limits and that you are happy with a non-accented, ASCII-only spelling.
Registration is open to anyone worldwide.
- Anyone may register a .design domain, with no local presence needed.
- Your contact details must be accurate.
- You must keep your contact details current over the life of the registration.
Renewal is not automatic, so you need to act before the name is released.
- After expiry there is a 40 day grace period in which you can still renew the name.
- There is no separate redemption period.
- Once the grace period ends without renewal, the name is released for others to register.
You can move an existing .design domain to Domain Central from another provider.
- You need the authorisation (EPP) code from your current registrar.
- The domain must be unlocked before the transfer can start.
- A transfer cannot take place within 60 days of registration or of a previous transfer.
- The transfer usually takes 5 to 7 days, and a successful transfer adds one year to the registration term.
You can change the registrant of a .design domain through your registrar.
- The change is made through the registrar and does not affect the expiry date.
- The registration term does not change when the registrant changes.
