.lighting
A .lighting domain is a generic top-level domain introduced as a new extension for websites about light. The registry is operated by Binky Moon, LLC, and the extension is open to anyone worldwide. It is a generic term, so lighting retailers and manufacturers, candle makers, photographers, architects, interior designers and theatre set designers can all use it.
The registry supports DNSSEC, which helps protect your domain from certain forms of tampering with its DNS records. Your domain name can be between 1 and 63 characters long, and internationalised names are allowed. You do not need a local presence in any territory to register one, and registrations can run for 1 to 10 years.
A .lighting domain is a good choice if your business or project is clearly connected to lighting, and you want a name that says so at a glance. Before you register, check that the name you want is available and that your contact details are accurate, because the registry requires them to be kept current.
Registration is open to anyone, and the registry sets no local presence requirement for this extension.
- Anyone worldwide can register a .lighting domain.
- Your contact details must be accurate when you register.
- You must keep your contact details current for the life of the domain.
Renewals run in 1 year increments, and the name is protected for a short time after it expires.
- There is a 40 day grace period after expiry in which you can still renew your domain.
- There is no separate redemption period, so you do not pay an extra fee to recover the name.
- If you do not renew within the grace period, the name is released afterwards.
You can move an existing .lighting domain to Domain Central from another provider, provided the domain is eligible.
- You need the authorisation (EPP) code from your current registrar, and the domain must be unlocked.
- A transfer usually takes 5 to 7 days to complete.
- A domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration or of a previous transfer, and a successful transfer adds one year to the registration term.
You can change the registrant of a .lighting domain through the registrar.
- The change is made through Domain Central and does not change the expiry date.
- The registration term stays the same after a change of registrant.
