.uk
A .uk domain is the official country code top-level domain for the United Kingdom. Nominet UK, the official UK registry, runs it. Businesses and individuals use a .uk domain when they want a short, modern alternative to the traditional .co.uk.
Your .uk domain can be registered for 1 to 10 years, and you can renew it for 1 year at a time. DNSSEC is supported, which helps protect your domain against spoofing and DNS attacks. Names must be 2 to 63 characters long. Internationalised names are not allowed.
A .uk domain is a good choice if you want a memorable UK identity with clear geographic targeting. Before you register, check that you can provide a UK address for service, because the registry requires one.
Registration is open to anyone, wherever they live.
- You must provide a UK address for service.
- Your contact details must be accurate and kept up to date.
- No UK business presence is needed to register.
Renew your .uk domain before its expiry date to keep it.
- After expiry, there is an 80 day grace period in which you can still renew.
- There is no separate redemption period for a .uk domain.
- If the name is not renewed, it is released afterwards and becomes available to others.
You can transfer an existing .uk domain to Domain Central from another provider.
- No authorisation code is needed. The transfer is done by changing the IPS tag through your current registrar.
- Transfers usually complete on the same day once the IPS tag is changed.
- A transfer does not change the expiry date of your domain.
Changes to the registrant are made through your registrar.
- The registrant can be changed through Domain Central.
- The term of your domain does not change when the registrant is changed.
