A .digital domain is a generic top-level domain operated by Binky Moon, LLC. It was created as a new domain name extension for the digital world we live in, where music, art, design and many other things are now digital or computerised. Individuals, businesses and organisations can all use it.
The registry supports DNSSEC, which helps protect your domain against tampering with its DNS records. Names can be between 1 and 63 characters long, and internationalised domain names are allowed. You do not need a local presence in any country to register one, and the registration term runs from 1 to 10 years.
A .digital domain is a good choice if your project is built around digital services, such as automated downloads, music, communication tools or photography. Before you register, check that the name you want is available and decide on a term that suits you.
Registration is open to anyone worldwide.
- Anyone, individual or organisation, can register a .digital domain.
- Your contact details must be accurate.
- You must keep your contact details current throughout the registration.
Renew before your expiry date to keep the name.
- After expiry there is a 40 day grace period in which you can still renew the name.
- There is no separate redemption period.
- If the name is not renewed, it is released after the grace period ends.
You can transfer an existing .digital domain to Domain Central from another provider.
- You need the authorisation (EPP) code from your current provider.
- The domain must be unlocked before the transfer can start.
- Transfers usually take 5 to 7 days, and the losing provider has up to 5 days to respond.
- A domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration or of a previous transfer.
- A successful transfer adds one year to the registration term.
You can change the registrant of a .digital domain through your registrar.
- The change is made through the registrar and does not alter the expiry date.
- The registration term stays the same after the change.
