.foundation
A .foundation domain is a generic top-level domain run by Public Interest Registry (PIR). It is open for registration, and anyone worldwide can register a name under it, which makes it a flexible choice for many kinds of organisation.
The registry supports DNSSEC, so you can add a layer of protection to your domain’s DNS records. Names can be between 1 and 63 characters long, and internationalised names are allowed. Registrations run for 1 to 10 years, and you can renew in one year steps.
A .foundation domain suits charities, construction and groundwork firms, philanthropic groups and makeup businesses. Because the extension is still relatively new, many names are available. Check the exact name you want against the registry’s rules before you buy, and register early if it matters to your plans.
Registration is open to anyone, anywhere in the world.
- No local presence in any particular country is required.
- Your contact details must be accurate.
- You must keep your contact details current throughout the registration.
If your .foundation domain expires, you have a 40-day grace period to renew it.
- The grace period runs for 40 days after expiry, and your domain can still be renewed during this time.
- There is no separate redemption period for this extension.
- If you do not renew within the grace period, the name is released afterwards.
To move an existing .foundation domain to Domain Central from another provider, you need a few things in place first.
- Request the authorisation (EPP) code from your current registrar.
- Make sure the domain is unlocked before you start the transfer.
- A domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration or of a previous transfer.
- The transfer usually takes 5 to 7 days, and a successful transfer adds one year to your registration term.
Changing the registrant of your .foundation domain is handled through your registrar.
- The change does not alter the expiry date or the length of your registration term.
- The new registrant’s contact details must also be accurate and kept current.
