.global
A .global domain is a generic top-level domain run by Identity Digital Limited. Any business, individual or group can register one, from technology companies to charities. It suits anyone who wants their web address to signal a global reach rather than a single area.
The registry supports DNSSEC, which helps protect your domain against tampering with its DNS records. Names can be between 1 and 63 characters long, and internationalised names are not allowed. Registrations run for a minimum of 1 year and renew in 1 year steps, so you can keep your term as short or as long as you need.
A .global domain is a good choice if you want a name that travels well across borders and does not limit you to one country or region. Before you register, check that the name you want is available and that it fits within the length and character rules.
Registration is open to anyone worldwide, and no local presence is required.
- Any business, individual or group can register a .global domain.
- You do not need a local presence in any particular country.
- Your contact details must be accurate and kept current.
Renew before your expiry date to keep your name, as a grace period follows if you miss it.
- There is a grace period of 40 days after expiry during which you can still renew.
- There is no separate redemption period.
- Renewals are made in 1 year steps.
- If the name is not renewed, it is released after the grace period ends.
You can move an existing .global domain to Domain Central from another provider if the domain is eligible.
- You need the authorisation (EPP) code from your current provider, and the domain must be unlocked.
- A domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration or of a previous transfer.
- The losing provider has up to 5 days to respond, and the transfer then completes automatically.
- Transfers usually take 5 to 7 days, and a successful transfer adds one year to the registration term.
The registrant of a .global domain can be changed through the registrar.
- The change is made through Domain Central and does not change the expiry date.
- The registration term stays the same after an owner change.
