.it
A .it domain is the country code domain for Italy. The registry is operated by IIT – CNR, which runs the Italian name system from its website at https://www.nic.it/. The extension is popular with Italian businesses, organisations and individuals who want a local address that signals their connection to Italy.
The registry supports DNSSEC, which helps protect your domain from certain kinds of tampering with its DNS records. You can register names between 3 and 63 characters long, and internationalised domain names are allowed. Registration usually takes 1 to 3 days, and you can start with a minimum term of 1 year and renew in 1 year steps.
A .it domain is a good choice if your business or project is based in Italy or the wider European region the registry accepts. Before you register, check that you meet the eligibility conditions, because the registry asks for an Italian connection or an EU citizenship with an EU address.
Registration is limited to people and organisations with a connection to Italy or the countries the registry accepts.
- Your country of origin must be Italy, or you must be an EU citizen with an EU address.
- The registry also accepts applicants from Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, Vatican City and San Marino.
- Make sure your contact details are accurate, as the registry relies on them to verify your eligibility.
Renew your .it domain before it expires to keep the name in your control.
- After expiry there is a 12-day grace period in which you can still renew the domain.
- There is no separate redemption period for a .it domain, and redemption does not cost extra.
- If the domain is not renewed by the end of the grace period, the name is released for others to register.
