.shop
A .shop domain is a generic extension run by GMO Registry, Inc. It is aimed at businesses that sell things online, from product reviews and price comparisons to food, clothing, flowers and bookings. A .shop domain name tells customers at a glance what your website is about.
The registry supports DNSSEC, which helps protect your domain from certain kinds of tampering. Names can be between 2 and 63 characters, and internationalised names are allowed. Registrations run for 1 to 10 years, and renewals are added one year at a time, so you can choose a term that suits your plans.
A .shop domain is a good choice if your business is built around online shopping or retail. Before you register, check that your preferred name fits the 2 to 63 character limit and that you are happy with a term of at least one year.
Registration is open to anyone worldwide, and no special documents are needed to register.
- Anyone may register a .shop domain, whether an individual or an organisation.
- Your contact details must be accurate when you register.
- You must keep your contact details current for the life of the domain.
Your .shop domain can be renewed for up to 10 years at a time. Renewals are added in one year increments.
- After expiry there is a 40 day grace period in which you can still renew the domain.
- There is no separate redemption period.
- If the domain is not renewed by the end of the grace period, the name is released and becomes available to others.
You can move an existing .shop domain to Domain Central from another provider. The process takes a few steps and depends on the current registrar.
- You will need the authorisation (EPP) code from your current registrar, and the domain must be unlocked.
- A transfer normally takes 5 to 7 days to complete.
- A domain cannot be transferred within 60 days of its registration or of a previous transfer, and a successful transfer adds one year to the registration term.
You can change the registrant of your .shop domain through your registrar. The change does not affect the expiry date.
- The change is made through the registrar, not directly with the registry.
- The registration term stays the same after a change of registrant.
