A .sydney domain is a generic top-level domain run by the State of New South Wales, through the Department of Premier and Cabinet. It is open to anyone worldwide, so you do not need to be based in Sydney to register one.
The registry supports DNSSEC, which helps protect your visitors against forged DNS answers. Registrations can run for anywhere from 1 to 10 years, so you can choose a term that suits your plans. Contact details must be accurate and kept current at all times.
